A new team has officially begun.
The San Ysidro UNIFIED Technology Center is now open, and we are so excited to welcome our newest UNIFIED gamers into a space built for connection, confidence, teamwork, and belonging.
For many families in South Bay San Diego, access matters. Having a supportive technology and life skills program closer to home can make it easier for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to participate consistently, build relationships, and feel connected to a community that understands them.
At the UNIFIED Esports League, every new Technology Center is more than a location.
It is the beginning of a team.
Every UNIFIED Location Becomes Its Own Official Team
One of the most meaningful traditions at UESL is that every UNIFIED Technology Center becomes its own official team.
That means the clients at our San Ysidro location will have the opportunity to help choose their own team name and mascot.
This may sound simple from the outside, but for our clients, it can be a powerful moment of ownership, pride, and identity.
Choosing a mascot gives the team something to rally around. Naming the team gives clients a shared voice. Wearing official team jerseys gives each person a visual reminder that they belong to something real, something recognized, and something worth celebrating.
Why Mascots, Team Names + Jerseys Matter
Many of our clients have never had the opportunity to be part of an official sports team.
They may not have experienced the excitement of choosing a team identity, wearing a jersey, practicing with teammates, being cheered on, or feeling recognized for the role they play in a group.
At UESL, we believe our clients deserve that experience.
They deserve to be celebrated. They deserve to know what it feels like to walk into a room and hear, “You are part of this team.” That is why every UNIFIED team gets to build its own identity from the ground up.
Through the process of choosing a mascot and team name, clients practice communication, collaboration, decision-making, creativity, and teamwork. They learn how to listen to each other, share ideas, support one another, and take pride in something they created together.
This is where team spirit begins.

Building Bonds Through Technology + Teamwork
At the San Ysidro UNIFIED Technology Center, clients will have opportunities to explore technology, play games, build friendships, and work alongside trained coaches who support each person at their own pace.
Our program uses gaming and technology as tools for growth. Clients are encouraged to try new things, communicate with teammates, practice problem-solving, and develop confidence in a structured, supportive environment.
For some clients, growth may look like joining a group game for the first time.
For others, it may look like learning how to ask for help, cheering on a teammate, trying a new controller, practicing patience, or feeling brave enough to participate in a shared team decision.
Progress looks different for every client.
But when clients are surrounded by coaches and peers who believe in them, those small moments can become something much bigger.

San Ysidro is a vibrant and deeply connected community in South San Diego, and we are proud to bring a UNIFIED Technology Center to this area.
UESL serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through accessible technology, relationship-centered coaching, structured programming, team-building, and community support.
As an approved San Diego Regional Center vendor, UESL helps eligible SDRC clients access services designed to support independence, confidence, social development, wellness, and quality of life.
